The forecast proved surprisingly favorable for Kori and Peter’s springtime The Springs Edmond wedding. It can certainly be a bit of a gamble, choosing a spring wedding in Oklahoma. Okay, a fairly big gamble. But Kori and Peter weren’t worried though. They have laid-back spirits, open for whatever the day decides to bring. And on this day, the weather was in the high 60’s while slightly overcast – simply perfect conditions.

The Springs Edmond wedding venue
Kori and Peter got ready for their wedding in separate rooms at The Springs Edmond wedding venue. This venue is large, including everything needed for an efficient and intentional wedding day. The getting ready rooms are well lit and spacious to house full wedding parties. Kori was the definition of calm while getting ready. Her energy was absolutely contagious, and the atmosphere felt very comfortable and joyful.
The couple opted for a first look in order to spend even more of their wedding day together. Thanks to the slightly overcast sky, we were able to take advantage of the glowing lighting for their first look and portraits. They shared quiet moments together, embracing their personalities during their portraits.
Kori and Peter have one of my favorite proposal stories. It’s simple yet incredibly sweet and meaningful. It just fills me with the warm fuzzies each time I read it. Here’s the story in Kori’s words she shared with me shortly before the wedding:
“Peter proposed on his birthday! I had been trying to get him to tell me what he wanted as a gift and he kept saying “I have everything I need”. Well, I took him out to dinner and afterward we were walking back to the car and he stopped and got down on one knee. He said “You have been asking me what I want for my birthday and I haven’t given you any suggestions because all I want is to spend the rest of my life with you”. It was very sweet and we both cried.”
Books and dinosaurs
The wedding party was a huge blast, and for every smiling portrait we captured, there were four of five goofy spontaneous portraits captured in between. One of my personal favorite moments of the day was looking over my shoulder while taking portraits of the couple, only to see the group of groomsmen playing on the rope swing. Heck yes and more having fun for the sake of fun at weddings, people!
Kori’s wedding attendants carried beautiful editions of classic literature books in lieu of traditional floral bouquets, while Kori herself carried a bouquet made from pages from books folded into flowers. It’s so perfectly them to throw away traditions that don’t carry meaning for them, and embracing the elements that do. Peter’s wedding attendants sported matching socks with roaring t-rex dinos because, why not? Such a fun touch, especially for what was to come at the reception.
An outdoor ceremony
The ceremony was short, oh so sweet, and perfectly them. As the bridesmaids carried their books, the flower girls followed up the aisle each holding a pair of balloons. So much fun, and a simple surprising swap. I was so grateful for the stunning weather, where everyone in attendance was so comfortable and able to take in even more.
Kori and Peter were introduced to one another by their mutual friends, Catherine and Trystan. Funnily enough, Catherine and Trystan hired me to photograph their wedding that is happening next year – and they recommended me to Kori and Peter for their wedding that happened to be sooner on the calendar. I love how things work out, even if it’s sometimes in a much different order. I always capture a portrait of past couples when I see them at current weddings, and in the case below they’re technically a future couple haha!
Reception celebration
Walking out to the Jurassic Park theme song gave a perfect precursor for what their reception is all about. Kori and Peter celebrated with their community of loved ones in the natural way that felt best for them. Hints of dinosaurs had appeared throughout the day. From the groomsmen’s socks, and the cake topper, and now – to a guest in an inflatable dinosaur costume bounding into the reception.
As the reception wound down and guests got ready to send then couple off, Kori and Peter enjoyed one final private dance together. It was such a meaningful way to share a few calm moments together, taking in their exceptional day.
Thank you to Kori and Peter for having me photograph your The Springs Edmond wedding! You two are a joy, and cheers to the most beautiful marriage and years ahead!
